I try to keep the information linked to data center technologies like networking, storage, virtualization, and the like, but occasionally other items slip through. Chris Wahl provides a quick overview of the HP Moonshot servers , HP’s new ARM-based offerings. OperatingSystems/Applications. Networking.
Correction from the last Technology Short Take —I incorrectly stated that the HP Moonshot offerings were ARM-based, and therefore wouldn’t support vSphere. I missed this on the #vBrownBag series: designing HP Virtual Connect for vSphere 5.x. OperatingSystems/Applications. Servers/Hardware. I was wrong.
” It’s called the Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Client, using the industry lingo for a basic type of hardware that relies on cloud-based storage and processing rather than a beefy CPU and hard drive on a traditional computer.
OperatingSystems/Applications. Although these posts are storage-related, the real focus is on how the storage stack is implemented in a virtualization solution, which is why I’m putting them in this section. Visit the site for more information on virtualization, servers, storage, and other enterprise technologies.
Kristin Wallace purchased a budget HP laptop for her daughter, Bella, but didn’t realize how quickly the nine-year-old would fill up 32GB of storage. “It I need a computer with more storage space,” said Bella, who uses the laptop to Zoom with friends and take virtual guitar lessons and math enrichment classes.
Last week at VMworld , I had the opportunity to meet with Lightbits Labs , a relatively new startup working on what they called “disaggregated storage.” So what is “disaggregated storage”? Lightbits has their own operatingsystem, LightOS, which runs on industry-standard x64 servers from Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.
This is an image of the Mint operatingsystem which you can use to run or install the operatingsystem. When you create a USB drive, you’ll be given the option to set it up with persistent storage. With this option, you can allocate up to half of your storage for a persistent overlay file. Try Mint out.

Well, I’m positive this is something that HP will not support, so don’t even think of calling them if you go down this road, but I figured it’d be fun if you wanted to continue to use the same hardware. The server should automatically boot off the USB key, format the drive and install all of the operatingsystem files.
Good friend Simon Seagrave is back to the online world again with this heads-up on a potential NIC issue with an HP Proliant firmware update. OperatingSystems/Applications. Visit the site for more information on virtualization, servers, storage, and other enterprise technologies. Servers/Hardware. Virtualization.
The ultimate goal of RSA is completely modularized servers with pooled CPUs, pooled RAM, pooled I/O, and pooled storage. Storage technologies, like PCIe SSD and caching. Similarly, there is no service-based configurability for direct-attached storage. (My This is going to be a key point of Kumar’s presentation.
Its the approach that HP (w/Matrix Orchestration Environment plugins), IBM (Open Fabric Environment) and Cisco (Unified Computing System or UCS) have entered into recently, and where firms like Egenera (with PAN Manager software and the Dell PAN System ) have been selling for some time.
With Windows 7 I was running it in production far before it even reached Alpha stage (which makes Windows 7 the operatingsystem I’ve run the longest, ever). It was the XP Bliss days all over again, but on a faster, more secure, more compatible, more more more system. Storage Server Essentials. (17). Eva Oliver.
Despite its small size, the Windows 365 Link is backed by a lightweight operatingsystem designed solely for cloud connectivity. It supports a basic hardware configuration with an undisclosed Intel processor, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.
Intel is working with a few other companies (Dell, Emerson, and HP) on a hardware API specification; early work on the API can be found here. Visit the site for more information on virtualization, servers, storage, and other enterprise technologies. Stay tuned for more liveblogs from IDF 2014, and I’ll post a day 2 recap as well.
The essence of trusted computing involves key concepts like endorsement keys, secure input/output mechanisms, memory curtaining, sealed storage, remote attestation, and Trusted Third Party (TTP) interactions. These concepts collectively contribute to the creation of a comprehensive system compliant with TCG specifications.
You will surely get an increase in the speed of the operatingsystem and software execution, with a decrease in loading times even in games. The main idea is to combine the speed of SSD technology with the storage space of the hard disk, so that you get the best of both worlds. We recommend you to have 1080p monitor HP.
CloudVelocity detects an existing environment, discovering the constituent hosts and blueprinting system components and configuration. It can then provision cloud resources, replicating and synchronizing the entire app stack (including operatingsystem, kernel, app software stack, and app data) in the cloud site. Networking.
The enterprise data storage marketplace is poised to become a battlefield. No longer the quiet backwater of cloud computing services, the focus of this global transition is now going from compute to storage. An overview of recent storage market history is needed to understand why this transition is important. is already with us.
Cloud OS Accelerate is a new program for key partners Cisco, NetApp, Hitachi Data Systems, HP and Dell, where Microsoft will invest more than $100 million to help put thousands of new private and hybrid cloud solutions into the hands of customers. Microsoft: It’s the Era of the Cloud OperatingSystem. Networking.
