Software developers are in demand. They must be developer-friendly because software development is not a traditional 9-to-5 job. An ideal working environment for this is based on three pillars: autonomy, collaboration and agility. Agile methods such as scrum or kanban are an important factor for many development teams.
The agile methodology, which facilitates collaboration between stakeholders, teams, and customers during software development, is fast gaining prominence in today’s enterprises. What is Scrum? What is a Scrum master? They also oversee Scrum teams, which consist of the product owner, the developers, and the sum master.
By Tom Thorpe, Vice President International Markets, Broadcom Software. Part of my role as Broadcom Software’s VP of International Markets is to think about the future. That’s what’s driven us toward the concept of the AgileScrum, a philosophy that Broadcom Software decided to adopt for our international sales team. .
Scrum is a powerful framework for implementing agile processes in software development and other projects. This highly adopted framework utilizes short iterations of work, called sprints, and daily meetings, called scrums, to tackle discrete portions of a project in succession until the project is complete. Others do not.

As a senior software leader, you spend much of your time trying to optimize your team's performance – from increasing delivery rate and velocity to reducing defect rates and waste. To do this, you've learned a wide variety of techniques and methodologies - SCRUM, Kanban, TDD, DevOps, self-organized teams, and much more.
This year I'm excited to have my team colleague Amanda joining me in the bi-annual Forrester Agile at Scale Adoption survey. So in addition to successful Agile team practices, alignment with business stakeholders upstream and downstream with testing and operations, we are looking into more Agile at scale issues like budgeting and DevOps.
Are you considering getting formally trained or certified in agile methodologies or scrum? Are you looking to become a certified scrum master, or maybe get trained in an agile framework such as SAFe or LeSS, or specialize in agile transformation with classes like StarCIO Agile Planning?
Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications are becoming valuable in larger organizations looking for efficient project delivery, reduced time-to-market, and ways to provide better stakeholder value. Scaled Agile: Scaled Agile is a key provider of agile training, courses, and certification, including SAFe.
Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) explained The Scaled Agile Framework encompasses a set of principles, processes, and best practices that helps larger organizations adopt agile methodologies , such as Lean, Kanban, and Scrum , to deliver high-quality products and services faster.
The same is not true, sadly, for many agile project management and development initiatives. Too often, an organization may launch something that looks like an agile program, calls itself an agile program, claims to operate like an agile program, yet really isn’t an agile program in the least.
Product owners, tech leads, and scrum masters are three common roles you find on scrum teams. I've written about their key responsibilities such as product owners prioritizing backlogs, tech leads overseeing estimating, and scrum masters ensuring team collaboration and cohesion. How can they help agile.
The Church of Agile is being corrupted from within by institutional forces that have refused or been unable to adapt to the radical humanity embodied in its collaborative, self-organizing, cross-functional teams. A hollowed-out husk of Scrum concealing taskmasters of Waterfall is the Trojan Horse of this betrayal. A sham of true Scrum.
I attended the 2020 Scrum guide update event that also celebrated its 25th anniversary. And while this new edition intends to provide more focus, be simpler and more inclusive – recognizing that Scrum is widely used outside of the software development world – some choices might just be counterproductive and even scare designers away.
Agile project management definition Agile project management is a methodology used primarily in software development that favors flexibility and collaboration, incorporating customer feedback throughout the project life cycle.
Here, agility is essential, and smart IT leaders are doubling down on efforts to streamline IT, whether that involves reprioritizing projects and realigning the IT portfolio, rationalizing applications and pursuing cloud-native approaches, increasing automation through DevOps or AIOps adoption, or overhauling the structure of IT operations.
Many IT teams use agile methodologies to iteratively deliver feature-rich releases, improve capabilities, address technical debt, and experiment with emerging technologies. I recently moderated Adaptavist’s “Agile Back to Basics” roundtable, which included three authors of the Agile Manifesto.
I ask this question to agile leaders working with five or more teams: What boundaries and empowerments do you set for your self-organizing teams? . More specifically, are their agile teams free to choose their own tools and technologies? Do you have defined quality,
Which software development methodology is best? As a CIO I suspect that you are well aware that there are a number of different ways that your IT teams can go about developing software (and doing a lot of other things). The balance between software and hardware in cars is also changing dramatically since software is increasingly developed internally and built into the cars. Paring down agile Another change the digital organization has gone through recently is to start backing away from a pure agile approach.
Certified Agile Leadership (CAL) The Certified Agile Leadership (CAL) certification is offered by ScrumAlliance and includes three certification modules, including CAL Essentials, CAL for Teams, and CAL for Organizations.
The 15th episode of 5 Minutes with @NYIke focuses on the modernized role of the scrum master. . Ten years ago, scrum masters were the experts on agile methodologies and charged to coach teams through the process. The role needs recasting.
Agile for hybrid teams optimizing low-code experiences The agile manifesto is now 22 years old and was written when IT departments struggled with waterfall project plans that often failed to complete, let alone deliver business outcomes. Today, many CIOs must determine which agile tools to use and where to create practice standards.

Does your agile team practicing Scrum or Kanban need a business analyst? Should business analysts be assigned to a single scrum team, or can they work across tribes or multiple teams? When do you know that your team is missing a business analyst, and what responsibilities do you assign them?
In Chapter 5 of my book, Digital Trailblazer, I share several of my stories of helping organizations define their agile ways of working. If you’re married to a framework, it’s hard for leaders to develop agile cultures and mindsets.
Underpinning these initiatives is a slew of technology capabilities and strategies aimed at accelerating delivery cycles, such as establishing product management disciplines, building cloud architectures, developing devops capabilities, and fostering agile cultures. This dip delays when the business can start realizing the value delivered.
By Tom Thorpe, Vice President International Markets, Broadcom Software. It’s been great to see people returning to face-to-face meetings in recent months – for us at Broadcom Software, a little more than most. At Broadcom Software, we take pride in being able to check all three of those boxes.
We can call many processes "agile," and teams can claim that they are practicing scrum. Still, there are sizable steps going from following basic agile ceremonies to agile methodologies or cultures. Specifically, teams are not agile if all they are doing is. Let's call a spade a spade.
