Over the last few years of my work in the network space, I have focused primarily on social networks and organizational network analysis, however I have also spent time on applying network analysis to industries, and in particular strategic positioning within industry landscapes.
Interestingly, the survey apparently also noted that many of the other 50% of organizations were deliberately allowing Facebook either for the explicit networking value of the tool, or in order not to annoy their staff. In other cases a dedicated corporate social networking platform ( see my review of the major players ) is the best path.
Their vested interest has resulted in a highly inaccurate and distorted view of the use of social networks in organizations being presented in the media. However, the more important side of the story is that in a knowledge-based economy such as Australia, effective networking is absolutely essential to corporate productivity.
