Its up to IT leaders to ensure the changes their digital initiatives bring to business workflows are absorbed and acted upon by the users impacted by them. Too often, however, changemanagement is treated as an afterthought, observes Munir Hafez, senior vice president and CIO at consumer credit reporting agency TransUnion.
Changemanagement is as big a concern now as it was 30 years ago. What steps can chief information officers take to effectively navigate change? Here are four suggestions.
Let’s Compare Agile And ITSM Thinking We all know that pushing every change – no matter how big or how small – through a changemanagement process is not only bureaucratic but also introduces delays that most development teams can neither afford nor tolerate.
The challenge some companies face, however, is the changemanagement of the structured approach for handling alterations within a development cycle. Changemanagement is an enabling framework for managing people through a change, in this case, related to a product in production. But it’s not easy.
The days of one-off changemanagement initiatives are over. Rather than tackle organizational changemanagement with an end in mind, IT leaders and their organizations must now exist in an environment of persistent flux. . “In The first casualty of change is often information,” says Mead. Speed matters.
What is the main purpose of changemanagement? In modern IT, changemanagement has many different guises. Project managers view changemanagement as the process used to obtain approval for changes to the scope, timeline, or budget of a project. What are the benefits of changemanagement?
Training, communication, and changemanagement are the real enablers. Managingchange and transformation Paolo Sicca, group CIO of manufacturing company Industria Grafica Eurostampa, is an example of how his role is evolving. The changemanagement was complex, as it always is, says Sicca.
Transformational CIOs continuously invest in their operating model by developing product management, design thinking, agile, DevOps, changemanagement, and data-driven practices. CIOs must also drive knowledge management, training, and changemanagement programs to help employees adapt to AI-enabled workflows.
The power of AI operations (AIOps) and ServiceOps, including BMC Helix Discovery , can transform how you optimize IT operations (ITOps), changemanagement, and service delivery. The companys more recent adoption of BMC ServiceOps has transformed changemanagement processes and IT services management (ITSM) success for his organization.
Then a clear plan was also required for how it should be incorporated into the job, based on clear leadership and changemanagement. Of course, security was a priority before implementation, considering the amount of critical information handled on a daily basis. A third area is information analysis.
Imagine an AI agent specifically designed to guide changemanagement and DevOps teams to deploy system and software changes more rapidly and reliably. With this information, teams can ask the AI agent additional questions such as Should I approve the change? or Can I look at change collision?
What CIOs can do: To make transitions to new AI capabilities less costly, invest in regression testing and changemanagement practices around AI-enabled large-scale workflows. It also anonymizes all PII so the cloud-hosted chatbot cant be fed private information. Playing catch-up with AI models may not be that easy.
A human-centric approach helps with the changemanagement efforts around using agentic AI while evaluating the benefits and risks. CIO should bet on changemanagement programs and evangelizing high-quality agents with whom employees collaborate to deliver value beyond productivity.
“Often, technical leaders don’t devote sufficient time to communication, changemanagement, and stakeholder management,” he observes. Hafez adds that most modernization projects typically fail due to a lack of a realistic expectations, defined requirements, and ineffective changemanagement.
We get a lot of documents from 20,000 customers, in all sorts of formats, says Brian Halpin, the companys senior managing director of automation. These can be PDFs, digital forms, emails, and key information can be located anywhere, and presented in different ways. For us, agents are essential to interacting with our data, he says.
This includes access to talent, quality of data, integration with legacy systems, changemanagement, and ethical and regulatory concerns. Hanna added that adopting AI, unlocks a companys capability to analyse information at scale and speed to identify and stop these threats before they significantly impact the business.
To make AI’s promising impact a reality, data science teams must see themselves as change agents and treat their work as mission-critical business matters.
Update your IT operating model to mesh with business needs The top priority for 2025 is to change your IT operating model to fit your organizations needs, which have surely changed recently, says Alan Thorogood, a research leader at the MIT Center for Information Systems Research (CISR).
IT leaders had to learn to show a return on investment on everything they do and drive meaningful business outcomes, says Sathish Muthukrishnan, chief information and digital officer with Ally Financial. Kellie Romack, chief digital information officer at ServiceNow, says 2024 has taught her to embrace that reality.
Target call center and service operations Call centers, customer service departments, IT service desks, and other support services have significant amounts of data in the form of service tickets, knowledge bases, and user profile information from CRM and HCMS platforms.
Because technology is continuously changing, IT consultants can provide clients with the latest information about new technologies as they become available, recommending implementation strategies based on their clients needs. As a result, for IT consultants, keeping the pulse of the technology market is essential.
Leaders must prioritize automation and implement changemanagement to meet employee expectations. The hybrid workforce is here to stay, driving the need for digital self-help tools.
Resorting to micromanagement or command-and-control “Micromanagement is one of the fastest ways to destroy IT culture,” says Jay Ferro, EVP and chief information, technology, and product officer at Clario. Below are 10 other ways to IT leaders damage their IT culture — and how to avoid it.
To capitalize on AI, organizations must fortify cloud environments with robust data management, zero-trust policies, enterprise governance, FinOps and organizational changemanagement.
CMDBs are considered a best practice for IT managers who need to maintain an accurate inventory of enterprise environments. Defined in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), CMDBs include data on the hardware, software, and infrastructure used by the applications and services provided by an IT organization.
However, EvoSys claims they werent informed of these issues until January 2023, after their support contract had ended, highlighting serious communication breakdowns between the council and its key vendor. Changemanagement deserves elevation to a primary project workstream.
In addition, many CEOs receive a lot of information through bullet-point lists, he adds, and some generative AIs excel at presenting data in easy-to-digest nuggets, even if the output may contain no new insights.
But the information wasn’t doing anything for them. In other words, this covers everything from how we collect information and who we can share it with, to how long we have to keep it for before getting rid of it.” We have around 250 applications across the organization, and they all create massive amounts of data,” he says.
By Bryan Kirschner, Vice President, Strategy at DataStax Changemanagement across people, processes, and technologies is a critical part of succeeding with generative AI (genAI). We see it in legal, in any place where youve got lots of documents, a lot of information to sift through.
Changemanagement strategies, including clear communication and incentives, helped overcome resistance and drive adoption. This practice provides support to boards, business leaders, and technology executives in their efforts to architect, benchmark, and optimize their organization’s information technology.
Oversight of cybersecurity is another area routinely earmarked for change as technology continues to permeate the enterprise fabric. While cybersecurity has traditionally been under IT’s wing, many firms are revamping reporting structures to create a direct line from the chief information security officer to the CEO.
The fastest adoption rate in history means the consumer is changing rapidly, becoming more informed, empowered, and discerning. What matters most is preparing your workforce, thinking through the changemanagement process, reshaping business workflows, and acquiring new skills.
It is critical for businesses to design a framework in which their digital workforce will thrive, while pairing it with smart changemanagement and governance approaches.
As a global survey by IFS of more than 800 manufacturing executives, 82% of manufacturers believe their company will not survive for more than one to three years if it does not become more involved with information technology. These different priorities increase indecision and prevent targeted action.
Much of that energy has been spent assembling the right team and fully backing them with robust leadership and changemanagement. The governance framework must implement systems that validate and clean data, ensuring the AI models are built on accurate and reliable information. Thats just the nature of this beast.
Knowledge management: GenAI helps organize and retrieve organizational knowledge, making it easier for IT professionals to access the information they need to solve problems and learn new skills. CIOs who act decisively now will gain a competitive edge by building adaptable, AI-ready teams.
