One of the unintended consequences of distributed computing and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is that things get more complicated. Since I was trained as an engineer, I use the networking definition. Technology must be able to execute the ‘intent’ of business. Like, “we’ve got more customers, we need more storage.”
